Miller set for Black Cats

Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Ipswich Town midfielder Tommy Miller.

The 26-year-old has rejected the offer of a new contract at Portman Road to link up with last season's Championship winners.

Miller could have signed a two-year contract with Ipswich but has opted to move to The Premiership with The Black Cats.

The former Hartlepool United ace had been Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy's top transfer target and he will be buoyed by the signing.

Celtic, Leeds United and Wigan Athletic were all mooted to be admirers of Miller but the player has decided to return to his North East roots.

He is expected to undergo a medical on Wearside next week before being unveiled as a Sunderland player.

Miller has spent the past four seasons at Portman Road and his departure will be a major loss to Ipswich manager Joe Royle as he looks to restore the club to the top flight.
