Striker continues to recover in hospital
The agent of Paraguayan striker Salvador Cabanas has spoken out after the shocking shooting of the player when he was on the verge of signing for Sunderland.
Cabanas was shot in the head in January outside a bar in Mexico City and his agent, Ruben Caicedo, claims he was within touching distance of a move to the Stadium of Light.
The 29-year-old, who plays for Mexican side Club America, is said to have agreed all the formalities and only had to complete a medical with the Premier League side before the incident which almost left him dead.
Caicedo said: "Cabanas should have left (Club) America in January for Sunderland.
"Everything had been arranged, the offer had been accepted by America, we had arranged everything, even the salary of the player.
"He only had to do his medical examinations.
"In addition, America was looking for a player to replace Cabanas but unfortunately this accident happened and for the moment everything has failed."
