Steve McClaren wants to "finish what we started" at Derby County by guiding the club to the Premier League.

The former England manager first took over the Sky Bet Championship side in September 2013, but was sacked in May 2015 shortly before taking over as Newcastle boss, with Derby having missed out on the play-offs.

But after Derby confirmed the 55-year-old would be taking over from Nigel Pearson, who left after just five months in charge, McClaren is relishing his return to the iPro Stadium.

"I am excited to be back at Derby County as the club's manager," McClaren told the club's official website.

"I have a great affiliation with the club, having been here on three previous occasions, and I am really delighted at the prospect of finishing what we started back in September 2013.

"I regret how my time at Derby ended back in 2015 and I am very motivated to put things right for the club and our supporters.
