Stopper determined to make most of Rams chance

Defender Chris Riggott has set his sights on proving his fitness and winning an emotional return to Derby. The 30-year-old, who is in the latter stages of rehabilitation from a back operation in April, started his career with the Rams back in 2000 after coming through the youth ranks at Pride Park. He went on to make over 100 appearances for the club, bagging the 2000/2001 Player of the Year award before departing for Middlesbrough in 2003. Injury-ravaged spells with Stoke and Cardiff followed, and his Bluebirds contract expired over the summer with just two appearances to his name. Riggott could revive his career at Derby after being handed the chance to show he is fit during the pre-season, and the defender is desperate to earn a contract at his boyhood club.

Incentive

He said: "If I can prove my fitness and get through a few games in pre-season, then hopefully I will be here for the season. "It is a huge incentive for me to get fit and get a contract here. It means a lot to me but I'm trying not to get carried away at the moment. "It would be phenomenal to be back playing but to pull on a Derby shirt would be something special. "I'm ready to put the work in and I'm positive. I've been used to not being fit and that's a mindset I need to get out of."
