Gareth McAuley, the Premier League's oldest current outfield player, is set for a new West Brom deal, according to boss Tony Pulis.
The 37-year-old centre-back has featured 25 times for the Baggies in the league this year, notching six goals, more than England forwards Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge.
McAuley, a Northern Ireland international, joined the club in 2011 as a 32-year-old and has gone on to make 198 appearances for the club in all competitions.
Baggies boss Pulis confirmed at his Friday press conference that McAuley is set for a contract extension.
"Gareth [McAuley] has been fantastic and I think we're very very close to agreeing a new deal with him," said Pulis.
"He's just continually put in performances which have been special for someone of his age. Whether I'm allowed to say that or not, I'm not sure.
"Hopefully it will be an extension for another year, which we'll be absolutely delighted to do for Gareth.
"You shouldn't use the word freak, but Gareth absolutely is. His fitness levels, the way he looks after himself and the way he deals with his life off the pitch and on the pitch is first class.
"There's no reason why he can't carry on for another year for us and he's such a wonderful lad as well around the dressing room.
"He's a block that you want to build your football club round, a wonderful character and he's had a great season."
West Brom currently sit in eight position in the league and next up is the visit of Crystal Palace to The Hawthorns on Saturday.
