Tony Pulis says he cannot fault his West Brom players after they were beaten 3-2 by Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Baggies extended their winless run to eight games with the defeat at The Hawthorns, and sit 14th in the table, just two points from the drop zone.
But despite the loss to a side Pulis described as "fantastic", he praised the efforts of his players against an in-form Man City side.
"I don't think you can fault any of our players today, they really had a go and there were a couple of opportunities that you hope you can take. You need to against these top clubs," he told Sky Sports.
"I thought the lads really worked hard. Obviously there's a gulf in quality in certain areas of the pitch. They're a fantastic team and he has got them playing the way he wants them to play and it stretches you at times if you miss that first press, they get through you and then they've got those players up front who are fantastic.
"It's difficult in respect of playing a team that is that good and with so much quality, but I think the lads will come out with a lot of credit for what they have done today and the way they have worked as a team."

Next up for West Brom is a trip to Huddersfield in the Premier League next weekend, with Pulis under no illusion that the game will be difficult despite playing against a newly-promoted side.
"We've got quite a few injured so whether they'll be back next week or not, I don't know but it's going to be a tough game. I've been there [the John Smith's Stadium] and it will be absolutely fantastic so bring it on," he added.
