Kanu seals Baggies switch

West Brom manager Gary Megson has bolstered his squad ahead of the new campaign with the capture of Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu.

The Baggies boss is desperate to add experience to his squad upon their return to the top flight and, having completed a move for Jonathon Greening, has now wrapped up a deal for Kanu.

The gifted but inconsistent forward had previously stated his desire to move to Midlands rivals Aston Villa but has now inked a deal with West Brom.

''The managers of some clubs came to see me personally at my house in London to declare their interest in me,'' Kanu told kickoffnigeria.com.

''But I must say that West Brom's Gary Megson sounded like the one with the best plans for me.

''That I was kept out in the cold for the greater part of last season, informed my decision to go for a club that keeps me busy, that will really see me play and get my game back to the Kanu that the world used to know.''

The capture of Kanu represents an ambitious swoop for the Premiership new boys and could prove to be an astute piece of business should the player perform to his abilities next season.

Kanu has not long been wed and the giant forward admits that he would be reluctant to move away from his partner, which ultimately led him to rule out a switch to Spain.

''I want to stay in England with my wife so that she can conveniently continue her university education and of course be at home with me,'' he concluded.

The player has inked a three-year deal at The Hawthorns after passing a medical.
