Hungarian faces spell on the sidelines due to knee injury

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed Zoltan Gera has suffered a serious knee injury and will be sidelined for the 'foreseeable future'. Gera picked up the injury during the first half of the Baggies' 3-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and the Hungarian was hopeful that it was only a minor problem. However, initial scans have shown up serious damage and West Brom boss Roy Hodgson is waiting to learn exactly how long he will be without Gera. "Zoltan has done really well since coming into the team three games ago and his performances quickly justified how highly we rate him," Hodgson told the club's official website.

Major blow

"We still don't know for sure how long he will be out for but we know we won't be able to call on his services for the foreseeable future. "This will be a major blow both on the training pitch and the match arena. "Zoltan is now in the hands of our excellent medical and sports science department and we just have to hope and pray that his stint on the sidelines is not an overly prolonged one." The 32-year-old returned for a second spell at The Hawthorns in the summer after deciding to leave Fulham, where he had played under Hodgson. He signed a two-year contract with the Baggies, but his second debut for the club was held up during his recovery from an ankle injury. Gera started the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal at the beginning of November before impressing in the win over Bolton the week before the Spurs reverse.
