West Brom boss left frustrated at defending for Everton winner
West Brom manager Roy Hodgson said he felt 'mugged' after Everton scored a late winner at the Hawthorns.
With 87 minutes on the clock, Toffees substitute Victor Anichebe took advantage of a poor Paul Scharner clearance in the penalty area to fire home and mark his return from injury in style.
It decided a game that lacked in attacking flair and looked to be heading for a dour goalless draw.
The Baggies failed to hit the target in 10 attempts, while Everton had struggled to carve out a clear-cut opening before their late winner.
Hodgson admitted that his side did not do enough to win the game, but he could not hide his frustration at conceding a late goal in the manner they did.
Ludicrous
"We didn't deserve to win it, but that was a 0-0 game," Hodgson told
Sky Sports. "To lose it to that type of goal close to the end is very disappointing.
"I didn't think we played very well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't think Everton had to do very much to keep us out.
"I thought that 0-0 would have been a satisfactory result on the day because it wasn't one of our better performances.
"So to lose 0-1 is a bit like being mugged, especially as we were the people who were behind our downfall, it was a ludicrous attempt to clear the ball."
