New Wolves manager Paul Lambert is seeking to "get the fans going" as he looks to push the club up the Championship table.

The Scot, who took over from the sacked Walter Zenga earlier this week, picks up a Wolves side in 19th place, nine points off the playoffs and with just four wins in 16 games this season.

Speaking on the EFL Weekly Podcast, Lambert, who had six months out of the game after he left Blackburn in May, heaped praise on his new club, and said the players need every bit of support from the fans.

"It's a really good football club. We have a fan base behind us that will drive us on, and that's what we need.

"It's a terrific club, a lovely stadium and the training ground is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to getting that crowd going.

"We'll try to attain [a play-off place], get there as quick as we can. We need to go on a run pretty quickly, and that's my job here."

Wolves are without a win in their last seven games, picking up just two points from a possible 21.

"It's not just one or two lads, there are a few, who can help when they bounce each other, but I think they need to grasp the Championship really quickly. It takes time to adapt to the division. They're young lads, not experienced pros, and we maybe need to be a little bit patient with them.

"Once the team come back, I'll tell them what I think and how we can start games better than we have. Defensively we need to be a lot stronger and resolute, too.

"I've seen some good things, some not so good things, and things we think we can maybe improve and make a big stronger. That's what I'll try to do, try to give everybody a lift and a good feeling."
