Southampton boss Ronald Koeman admitted he was disappointed after his side were held to a 0-0 draw at West Brom.
And Koeman, whose side had a glorious chance through Jay Rodrguez's header just before the break, thought his side were not clinical enough in attack.
He told Sky Sports: "We are a little bit disappointed because out of a lot of ball possession today we didn't create enough.
"I think we had one big chance with Rodriguez in the first half. It was difficult to create and to score.
"We were not good enough in attack. We didn't have enough quality and we were not clinical enough to score the winning goal today but overall I'm happy about the performance and another clean sheet.
"That's important but out of all that ball possession we had to score today."
Southampton were boosted by the arrival of Virgil van Dijk on deadline day and the former Celtic man put in an excellent performance on his debut.
"I'm very pleased. Virgil was impressive today," added Koeman.
"He was very strong in defence and very comfortable on the ball. It's a great signing and it makes the team stronger."
