Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew satisfied to secure his first point of the year in their 1-1 draw with Swansea

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew was happy to have secured his first point of the new year in their 1-1 draw with Swansea.

Scott Dann cancelled out Gylfi Sigurdsson's free-kick opener as the Eagles ended a run of five straight Premier League defeats.

"It felt good, we knew we had to get something as we couldn't go another game under the pressure (of losing again) so it was a very important result for us," Pardew told Sky Sports.

"It was a tough game, there was a lot of energy and commitment from both teams but we just did enough. The start of the second half was our best period and that changed the game a little bit.

"We knew we needed to get off that 31 points because it was really starting to strangle us!"

Pardew also reserved special praise for Emmanuel Adebayor, who made his first start for the club at the Liberty Stadium.

"He had a couple of moments that were top drawer," said Pardew. "He was good and you can see he will add something to us.

"But we need more players back, next week I get Connor Wickham and Gayley (Dwight Gayle) back and that will make a big difference to us because we look like we still need a bit more going forward at this level."

Palace's goalscorer Dann, meanwhile, said that his side had to dig in to secure the point.

"It was important, especially with the run we've been on of late to stop that run - and we did that," the defender told Sky Sports.

"We had to dig in at times, but second half we came out and made more of a game of it, got the goal and nearly nicked a second.

"We started the season really well, but now we've had a not so good run it was about making sure we didn't lose."
