Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie targets Wembley appearance

Newcastle United's Vurnon Anita (R) tackles Crystal Palace's Yannick Bolasie

Yannick Bolasie is determined to reach Wembley with Crystal Palace, after revealing his heartache at missing the club's last national stadium appearance.

Palace's last trip to Wembley saw them earn promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Watford in the 2013 Championship play-off final, with Bolasie an unused substitute.

The winger made his return from a hip injury during Sunday's 1-0 win at Tottenham, coming on as a second-half substitute.

"I didn't get a chance to play at Wembley in the play-offs, that's one of the things that hurt me the most."

Bolasie helped his side retain the lead given to them by Martin Kelly's first-half goal, which earned a quarter-final tie at Reading.

Despite his delight at making his first appearance in over two months, Bolasie has not forgotten the pain he felt almost three years ago when he remained on the bench, and is determined to pursue the ambition of a Wembley return.

"I didn't get a chance to play at Wembley in the play-offs, that's one of the things that hurt me the most," said the 26-year old.

"But it also pushed me on. Hopefully we can make it there."

Bolasie also believes that the win over Tottenham could signal the end of Crystal Palace's poor run. The club have only won twice since Bolasie's injury on December 19 - both wins coming in the FA Cup.

He said: "It's always momentum. Beating Spurs - they're second in the league. It's definitely a great result for us.

"Hopefully now with that win we've turned the corner. Now we look forward to the next game against West Brom. It's going to be a tough game but I'm confident we can go for the win.

"It's been difficult at times [being out injured]. You get lots of text messages from people that know you. You don't really want to talk, you're almost kind of hibernating. But it's part of football.

"Now we're just looking forward to playing the next game and I'm sure everyone's going to come away confident."
