Goalkeeper pens new long-term deal

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with the club. Speroni has established himself as one of the Eagles' star players since arriving at Selhurst Park from Dundee for £500,000 in July 2004. He has gone on to make almost 200 appearances for the club and is widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the Championship. A number of Premier League clubs were thought to be closely monitoring his progress and Palace co-chairman Steve Parish admitted earlier in the season he would be prepared to listen to offers.

Delighted

However, Speroni has now put an end to the speculation by committing his future to the club until 2014. "Everyone connected with the club knows Julian is a special keeper and a thoroughly decent person," Parish told Palace's official website. "I'm absolutely delighted he has agreed to commit his future to Crystal Palace football club. "With Julian, Darren Ambrose and Paddy McCarthy all signing long-term deals, it shows the fans the commitment we have to making this club a success and getting back to the top of the division where we belong."
