Crystal Palace have sacked manager George Burley following the 3-0 defeat at London rivals Millwall on New Year's Day.
Burley had only been in charge at Selhurst Park since the summer, but has won just six of his 24 Championship games in charge.
Saturday's thrashing at The Den proved to be the final straw for the Palace board, who have confirmed the Scot's departure.
"George Burley has today been relieved of his duties as first-team manager of Crystal Palace FC," read a statement on the club's
official website.
"We would like to thank George for his dedication and hard work and share his regret that things didn't work out for him here.
"Dougie Freedman will take charge of the first team on a caretaker basis for the game against Preston."
Former Ipswich and Southampton boss Burley was appointed manager before pre-season to replace Paul Hart, who had spent a couple of months in charge after Neil Warnock's departure to Queens Park Rangers last term.
However, following a troubled time off the pitch came to an end, Burley has been unable to lift spirits on the field.
Palace's defeat at Millwall stretched their winless run to five games and the board have decided to act at the start of the transfer window.
