Aston Villa have had a bid rejected by Crystal Palace for striker Dwight Gayle, Sky sources understand.

Gayle joined Palace from Peterborough in 2013 in what was then a club-record deal for the south London club.

The 25-year-old has scored 19 goals in 53 appearances for Palace but has been linked with an exit from Selhurst Park this summer.

The former Arsenal trainee has seen his first-team prospects limited by the summer arrivals of on-loan Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford and Connor Wickham from Sunderland.
