Sky Sports understands Ipswich Town have completed the loan signing of Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. The promising young custodian has recently completed a successful loan stint at Reading's Championship rivals Leeds United, returning to his parent club on 3rd January. Ipswich have been looking for a goalkeeper for some time and have now reached an accord to take McCarthy to Portman Road until the end of the season. McCarthy, an England Under 21 international, is highly regarded by Royals boss Brian McDermott but it is felt regular first team football will aid his progression. It had been suggested Leeds could try to sign McCarthy on a permanent basis but this was a notion quickly rejected by McDermott.
