Ipswich's Larsen Toure threw his shirt into crowd at full-time - before realising he needed it back because the game had gone to extra-time!
The club's summer signing - making his first appearance in the Capital One Cup - thought Tuesday's game against Doncaster was up after 90 minutes and headed over to make the gesture to his side's travelling fans.
But he had to ask for it back after being told there were 30 further minutes to play following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Toure quickly rediscovered his focus, setting up David McGoldrick, before James Alabi and Ryan Fraser sealed a 4-1 win that was rewarded with a third-round tie against Manchester United.
"I think some of the fans were telling him actually," said Town boss Mick McCarthy. "As much as they wanted his shirt, I think they realised he needed it for another 30 minutes.
"Look, it is what it is – it's funny now. He was great. I think he'll be a good player for us."
