Burnley are considering a bid for Cardiff defender Matthew Connolly, according to Sky sources.

The 28-year-old has been in excellent form for the Bluebirds over 28 appearances this season.

The Clarets are keen to strengthen at the back in the winter transfer window as they push for promotion back to the Premier League.

They had a bid for Brentford's James Tarkowski rejected last week but retain an interest in the player, and they have also submitted an offer for Bees' attacking-midfielder Alan Judge.

Manager Sean Dyche, who saw his side move into the top four after a 5-0 victory over MK Dons in midweek, is now set to move for Connolly, who won promotion to the top-flight while on loan at Watford last season.

Connolly joined Cardiff from QPR in 2012 and has made 93 appearances for the club.
