Lafferty honour at Celtic link

Kyle Lafferty has spoken of his honour at being the subject of interest from Celtic.

Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty has spoken of his honour at being the subject of interest from Celtic.

The SPL champions are understood to have made a bid for the 19-year-old Northern Ireland international.

Lafferty is also a reported target of Liverpool, Manchester City and Blackburn, but Celtic appear to be in pole position for his signature.

Although he was a Rangers fan as a child, Lafferty insists that will not stand in the way of a move to Gordon Strachan's side.

"Celtic are a huge club and I'm honoured to be the subject of a bid," Lafferty told BBC Sport.

"Obviously there is a long way to go but I will be talking to my club and my agent. I will also have to have a long chat with my mum and dad.

"I grew up supporting Rangers but that won't stand in my way. Celtic are massive and the lure of European football is very appealing."

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez believes Lafferty has a bright future ahead of him.

The 6ft 4in striker already has seven caps for his country and Sanchez expects plenty more to follow.

He said: "Kyle has got a lot going for him, he's one of a rare breed with a physical presence. He's a big lad and we don't have too many of them."
