Norwich midfielder Nathan Redmond said he is surprised by Chelsea's inability to improve results following a poor start to the season.

Redmond, 21, expected Jose Mourinho's side to return to their title-winning form from last season much earlier in the campaign rather than be so near the relegation places in 16th position.

One of Chelsea's four league victories this season came against Norwich at Stamford Bridge in November yet are just one point above the Canaries following Monday's 2-1 defeat to table-topping Leicester.

Redmond said: "I think at the start of the season it was like, at some point they'll pick it up, and at the moment you're thinking, when are they going to do it?

"But I think they probably see the situation as it is for them too. When I look at the table and I see them in that position I just think it's a bit weird. I'm used to seeing them battling for first and second.

"So it is a bit weird to see, but they are in the same position as teams in and around us."
