Norwich will be without Nathan Redmond for "a few weeks" of their survival fight, manager Alex Neil has revealed.

The winger this week pulled out of England's U21 squad after injuring an ankle during last weekend's goalless draw with Manchester City.

And the damage will deprive Neil of a key performer for a run of games, starting with Saturday's trip to West Brom.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference the Norwich boss said: "Nathan will be out for a few weeks.

"He will still definitely play a part in our season. It's a case of time and getting him back to speed."

Centre-half Ryan Bennett is a doubt for Saturday as Norwich chase a win that would take them out of the bottom three ahead of Sunday's meeting between relegation rivals Newcastle and Sunderland.

Norwich host both north-east sides next month and Neil said: "This is the start of a crucial run of five games where we've got to get as many points as we can and make an impact.

"We've been searching for a balance all season in keeping tight at the back but still maintaining a threat going forwards.

"We looked defensively solid against Man City but there's always a negative somewhere. I want us to score goals and win games."
