Adam Armstrong reminds me of Sergio Aguero, admits Joe Cole

Joe Cole says fellow Coventry loanee Adam Armstrong reminds him of Manchester City hotshot Sergio Aguero.

Newcastle forward Armstrong is League One's top scorer after hitting 12 goals in 14 appearances for the Sky Blues.

And, speaking after Armstrong's double helped beat Barnsley in midweek, Cole made a eye-catching comparison.

"Armstrong reminds me of Aguero in a way, he's of the build and he's hungry for goals," Cole told Coventry's official website.

"In a lovely way he's selfish for goals and has the ingredients to be a top player and go on to score many more goals."

Cole joined the League One club from Aston Villa on a 35-day emergency loan deal last month and opened his account with a fine free-kick in a 4-3 win over the Tykes at the Ricoh Arena.

The 33-year-old admitted  he was happy to now have the chance to take set-plays after a career spent waiting in line behind the likes of England internationals Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Frank Lampard.

"It's nice to get on free kicks, as I've played with many great free-kick takers like David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard," he added.

"I've not taken too many in my career! I could say to the lads tonight I was taking it, I couldn't back then with those great free-kick takers!"

Cole believes the impressive facilities at Coventry show that club should be in a higher division than they currently are.

"It's a great stadium to play in and I'm delighted to be here," he said. "I think it shows that we should be higher in the leagues. It's up to us players, management and staff to put the club in a higher position particularly with the facilities and the city.

"But most importantly we got the three points against a side that probably shouldn't be where they are.

"The best thing about the win is that the team are disappointed with the performance, that shows the standards here.

"I've come here to help the team and I'm excited to play with young players and help them develop on and off the pitch.

"We're pleased with the three points and we'll be looking to keep the form going."
