Hoops boss looking to get points in bag before tough finish
QPR manager Mark Hughes believes Saturday's game against Wigan could act as a springboard to survival.
Hughes has been tasked with steering the Hoops towards safety after replacing Neil Warnock.
They lost 1-0 in his first game in charge at Newcastle last weekend but enjoyed their first win in 11 in midweek, beating MK Dons 1-0 in the FA Cup.
And Hughes believes a Premier League win against fellow strugglers Wigan will steel Rangers for what is sure to be a crucial stage in their season.
"We are all mindful of the significance of the game," said the former Blackburn, Fulham and Manchester City boss.
"It is not only this one but maybe the next six, seven or eight games, to be perfectly honest. They are key to how our season will progress.
"If we can get a positive result at the weekend then that will sustain us for the games we have ahead.
Difficult run-in
"We have a difficult run-in and we are mindful of that. We need to get points on the board.
"I think if we do that, that will obviously mean an improvement in performances and confidence.
"That will help us going into a difficult period against more accomplished teams in the Premier League.
"If we can start winning now, it will only help the boys."
Hughes will have skipper Joey Barton available after suspension although the club are unlikely to complete any of their prospective signings in time.
