Wes Morgan admitted Leicester should not have been awarded the first of their two penalties - according to Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.
Alvaro Negredo scored twice for the visitors who were seconds away from victory before Marten de Roon brought down Morgan for Leicester's second penalty. Islam Slimani made it 2-2 from the spot.
But it was their first penalty, scored by Riyad Mahrez, which angered Karanka after he claimed Morgan admitted he had pushed Calum Chambers.
"I was sure one player pushed Calum Chambers. If I had one doubt, which I didn't have, the players told me Morgan recognised to them he had pushed Calum," he said.
"I've been here for three years and I always say football is about a team. If we want to win or lose we're working as a team, and the referees work as a team.
"We showed again we are a really good side and how well we can play, against Leicester who won the league last season.
"We should have won the game and I think we were the better team. But football can be unfair and we didn't get the three points we deserved."
Leicester have won just once in their last eight league games and remained two points above the relegation zone after the draw and boss Claudio Ranieri admitted they must be prepared for the possibility of a relegation battle.
He said: "When teams similar to Leicester play for the first time in Europe they always lose something in the Premier League or in their league. But for us now it's important for us to think we are in the battle for relegation and then every point is okay.
"I'm not worried. But I am a very pragmatic man. Last season we were very very far ahead but I was always looking behind me."
