Ben Chilwell has withdrawn from the England U21 squad for the Euro 2019 qualifiers due to injury and has returned to Leicester City.

Chilwell will miss Friday's match against Scotland at Middlesbrough and the game in Andorra on October 10.

Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Jonjo Kenny of Everton did not train on Wednesday and were sent for scans but both are expected to feature in the two games.

England U21s are joint-top of Group 4 with Ukraine after a 1-1 draw in the Netherlands and a 3-0 win over Latvia in their opening games of the qualifying competition.

Manager Aidy Boothroyd has been delighted with the start his players have made to their qualifying campaign.

"I was really pleased with the way it went, we got four points on the board in our games which was what we'd targeted and the way the group came together for the start of our campaign was pleasing," he said.

"We had some really good moments in both games, but there are still plenty of things on which we need to work on.

"Overall though, I was really pleased with how it went and now we need to move forward and build on our points tally in the next two games against Scotland and Andorra.

"The game with Scotland is an intriguing fixture and it's a really good game for us. The fact that the Scots beat the Dutch is good for the group I think, because it now sets it up nicely for our game with them.

"They're a team that will naturally want to beat us and they'll be working very hard to do that.

"Personally, as a passionate Englishman, I'm really looking forward to it."
