Ian Wright and Jamie Redknapp say they do not know what Leicester’s owners want after they sacked Craig Shakespeare on Tuesday

Jamie Redknapp has questioned whether any successful manager would want to take the Leicester City job after the dismissal of Craig Shakespeare.

Speaking on The Debate, Redknapp criticised the decision to sack Shakespeare and believes managers have got no chance of achieving success due to the owners' lack of patience.

Claudio Ranieri led City to the 2015/16 title but was sacked nine months after their remarkable triumph.

Shakespeare guided the Foxes to safety last season but was dismissed after a run of one win in eight Premier League games.

Redknapp said: "It shows you what they're like. These owners look at their team and they can't understand why they're not top of the league.

"They've done the most amazing achievement we've seen in football. When they won the league they had a real team.

Jamie Carragher believes Craig Shakespeare's sacking was "harsh".

"You've got no chances with owners like that. If you sign a contract there you'd be worried about getting your exit money right because you're not lasting. If you've got anything about you, you'd think twice about going there.

"As soon as you have half a bad run instead of giving them a bit of time they say 'no let's sack the manager.' I think that's useless. It's rubbish.

"Very quickly they're losing a lot of love. It's just embarrassing. They need to look at themselves and realise you can't keep sacking managers. You're not going to get success that way."

Ian Wright had sympathy for Shakespeare after his exit and does not think he stood a chance of long-term success at the club.

Wright said: "I do feel for him. I don't know what you expect when you take over from someone that nine months earlier won the league. He was always on borrowed time if you can sack Claudio Ranieri after winning the title.

"It just doesn't make sense. You've got to give them a chance to get themselves going. Now we've seen the precedent with Frank de Boer after four games and you look at the owners and they haven't got a clue with what they want and expect."

Sam Allardyce is the early favourite for the job with Carlo Ancelotti is 8/1 with Sky Bet but Redknapp thinks the former Bayern Munich boss would struggle to do better than Shakespeare with their current squad.

He said: "If they were going to get Carlo Ancelotti I'd understand the decision. But would he take that job? They've certainly got the money to give the manager what they want.

"I don't think he could necessarily do a lot more than Craig Shakespeare did."
