Michael Appleton has played down talk over the permanent Leicester City job insisting he wants to remain as assistant boss.
Appleton guided the Foxes through to the last eight of the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 win over Leeds United on Tuesday, Leicester's second victory of the week under the caretaker boss following the dismissal of Craig Shakespeare.
But the former Oxford United boss claims he is keen to remain as assistant boss of the Foxes rather than take on the role on a permanent basis.
Appleton told Sky Sports: "That comes [media speculation] every time you win a game of football but I think I said after the game on Saturday you win a couple of games and all of a sudden there seems to be a bit more interest in yourself but if we lost tonight it would have been 'let's get a new manager as quickly as possible'.
"The reality is and I keep saying it I came in to do a job as assistant and hopefully I get the opportunity to do that.
"I'll wait to hear from them [owners] and hopefully they will keep me informed of anything that's going to happen whether it's over the next few days, weeks or whatever it may be.
"In the meantime I just need to continue to do what I do and enjoy working with the players."
Appleton guided the Foxes to a 2-1 win at Swansea on Saturday and his next Premier League clash is the Super Sunday match at home to Everton.
