Leicester have recalled midfielder Harvey Barnes from his loan spell at West Brom, the clubs confirmed on Friday.

The England U21 international, who scored nine goals in 26 Sky Bet Championship games for Albion, will now return to the King Power Stadium with immediate effect.

Barnes came through the ranks of Leicester's academy and signed a new four-year contract with the Foxes before joining the Baggies on loan in the summer.

Albion boss Darren Moore said: "We're obviously very disappointed to see Harvey go as he has clearly played an important role for the team over the first half of this season.

"He has been a pleasure to work with and a popular figure within the club. We are proud to have played a role in his development and we have nothing but good wishes for him in his future career."

Subject to Premier League approval, the 21-year-old will be eligible for Leicester's game against Southampton on Saturday.

"He has been brought back for many reasons but the primary reason is because he can help us," said Leicester boss Claude Puel.

"The player has progressed, and I would like to thank West Bromwich and their manager for giving him the opportunities to play.

"It is difficult [for West Brom] to lose a player like this but it is a good moment for him to come back and help his team-mates."

Puel thinks Barnes can add a another dimension to Leicester's attacking options.

""He can play on the left side, he can play as a striker and he can play just behind the striker," said the Frenchman.

"He is an attacking player and he has penetration. He is a clinical player. He can start a move and finish a move. He is a complete player. These are his qualities.

"He trained with his team-mates today [Friday] and he is fit and available, should we wish."
