Brendan Rodgers' appointment as Leicester manager is "a coup" for the club, according to former Foxes defender Sol Bamba

The Cardiff centre-back switched from Hibernian to Leicester in 2011 and went on make 55 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Bamba said Rodgers, who left Celtic on Tuesday and signed a contract with Leicester until 2022, is a big catch for the Premier League club.

"He knows the league, he managed Liverpool obviously and he went to Scotland and did very well," said Bamba.

"I think a few clubs were after him, he wanted to come back to the Premier League, so I think it's definitely a coup for Leicester."

Rodgers, who won seven trophies at Celtic, is known for his attacking philosophy and Bamba believes that will suit the current Leicester squad.

"Yes absolutely," he went on. "I think that's why they went for him because of the brand of football he wants to play. He's an attack-minded manager.

"I'm sure Leicester are going to enjoy that. He's got a squad for it with the likes of Jamie Vardy and James Maddison and I think he will do very well there.

"(Vardy) is a massive character in the dressing room, he leads from the front.

"If you've got him on your side he's going to influence the rest of the group.

"He's going to make sure the dressing room is okay".
