On-loan Leicester striker Yakubu would 'love' to stay at the Walkers Stadium on a permanent basis.
The Everton forward moved to Sven Goran Eriksson's Championship play-off hopefuls in January and has since made 12 appearances, scoring four goals.
Yakubu is due to return to Goodison Park in the summer, but former England manager Eriksson recently said that he hopes the 28-year-old would stay.
The Nigerian has now echoed the sentiments of his manager because he wants to continue to play first-team football.
"I would love to stay, really," said Yakubu. "I hope we get promotion. I want to be here and I know the club deserve to be in the Premier League.
"The ambition they have, they have been there before but now this is the time to be there and if I can be part of it, with my experience, it would be great for the club and the people of Leicester too."
He added: "It was a big decision to leave Everton. When I spoke to the manager (Eriksson) he said he really wanted me to come, and I said yes.
"For me, it was not just about staying in the Premier League and playing 10 minutes or 15 minutes and sitting every week not playing, I was not enjoying it which is not good. You get paid but I love to be on the pitch, working hard and playing football."
