Premier League: Nigel Pearson has refused to apologise for spat with fan following Leicester defeat

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has refused to apologise to a fan he argued with following the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

The Foxes boss was caught on camera having a spat with a supporter at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

The defeat left last year’s Championship winners rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and means they have only picked up one point from their last six games

If people were offended than in some way that is regrettable but I don’t feel the need to apologise to somebody of that ilk.

Pearson, however, remains defiant, insisting he was protecting his players and will not apologise for that.

“I’ve had run-ins with fans in the past and in the heat of the moment these things happen but there certainly won’t be any apology,” he said.

“I think it’s probably best we don’t speak about what happened on either side. I’m more than happy to stick up for myself in that situation and more importantly protect my players and that is really the root cause of the problem.

“If people were offended then in some way that is regrettable but I don’t feel the need to apologise to somebody of that ilk.

“The perennial moaners are at most football clubs and there seems to be a situation where people revel in bad news and things not going well. Unfortunately you get those sort of people from time to time."

Pearson is adamant the incident will bring his team closer together.

“I think it’s good for us because it has galvanised the feeling within the camp,” he added.

“The players are exceptionally unhappy with one or two things that happened the other night. These things are regrettable but unfortunately will happen from time to time and if it brings us closer together then we are all well and good.”
