Barnsley have signed Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill on loan for an initial month.
Brownhill, 20, will stay at Oakwell until February 13 and will go straight into head coach Lee Johnson's squad for Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 game at Shrewsbury.
"Josh is bright and energetic, he'll fit into our group well," Johnson told the club's official website.
"He'll bring strength in competition to the squad and I'm sure he'll prove a positive addition over the next 28 days."
Johnson has moved quickly to fill the void left by former Manchester United midfielder Ben Pearson, who recently signed a permanent deal with Preston after spending nearly a year at Oakwell during two separate loan spells.
Brownhill, who progressed through Preston's youth system, has made six appearances for Simon Grayson's side in all competitions.
