Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has returned to Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

Toney, 20, who scored two goals in eight appearances for Barnsley earlier on in the campaign, will go straight into the squad for Friday's home Sky Bet League 1 game against Scunthorpe.

"We're delighted to have someone of Ivan's calibre back for the remainder of the season," Barnsley caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom told the club's official website.

"His pace and power can cause the opposition huge problems and I'm sure he'll be a big asset for the remainder of the season."

Toney's form for Barnsley prompted his parent club to recall him early but he has made just one first-team appearance since, coming on as a substitute in Newcastle's 3-3 draw with Manchester United in January.
