Barnsley have been dealt a blow with the news that recent signing Brian Howard will miss the start of the season due to injury.Howard shunned a new deal at Swindon and a rival offer from Bournemouth to move to Oakwell and Tykes chief Andy Ritchie had high hopes of the winger making a real impact in Yorkshire.
However, Howard fractured a bone in his right foot during a training session and has been told he will require surgery.
Early indications are suggesting he will be sidelined for around six weeks, ruling him out for the opening salvos in League One.
