Midfielder signs new two-year deal

Hugo Colace has ended speculation over his future by signing a new two-year deal at Barnsley. The 26-year-old Tykes Player of the Year had been linked with a move away from Oakwell after being connected with Swansea and Crystal Palace. The Argentine snubbed offers from England, Mexico, Italy and Russia to stay with Barnsley. Barnsley boss Mark Robins was delighted to keep hold of the influential midfielder. "The contract has always been on the table and my hope was that he would eventually re-sign for us," said Robins. "It's an important signing and the club beat off serious competition for his services from clubs in Britain and around the world. "For Hugo it was important for him to find out what other options were out there. With so much interest in him he needed to take time to think about it, as anyone would. "The important thing is that he has come back to us and signed the contract that was on offer. He could have secured more financial rewards by going elsewhere, but he believes in what we are doing at Barnsley Football Club and he couldn't turn his back on the supporters that gave him last season's Player of the Year award."
