Peter Beagrie picks the top Championship goals and players - and previews Reading v Norwich.

Peter looks at the best of the Football League

Two draws in a week have announced Norwich as genuine play-off contenders. The Canaries may be a lovely footballing side, but they managed to take a point off both Burnley and Millwall, two strong and physical teams, so it's clear they know how to compete in this division. Paul Lambert has added a steel and a spirit, qualities that were in evidence as they came back from 2-0 down to Burnley, roared on by 24,000 fanatical fans. They swept all before them whilst gaining promotion from League One last season, scoring 89 goals and picking up 95 points, and their good start this season has certainly given the Canaries something to chirp about. They are also spreading the goals around team. Andrew Crofts, Wes Hoolahan and Simeon Jackson have netted four league goals each and last year's scoring sensation Grant Holt has five in all competitions. Chris Martin also has four goals to his name to further prove that Norwich are not a one-man team - you can't keep Norwich quiet simply by keeping Holt quiet. Saturday's opponents Reading finished ninth last season and have seen a mass exodus of star names in recent years. But under the studious tutelage of Brian McDermott, a young vibrant Reading have emerged. With youth comes the obvious problem of inconsistency, but with the additions of Andy Griffin and Ian Harte - model professionals and excellent players for this level - McDermott's side can beat anyone on their day. There are no real stars or egos in the Royals squad and the team has had 12 different outfield players on the scoresheet. Reading will be looking to bash the bookies by beating Norwich, but Lambert's men will start as slight favourites.

Players of the Month

Here is my take on the nPower Players of the Month, which were announced this week: Championship: JAY BOTHROYD (Cardiff City)
It was another tremendous month as regards to goals scored and all round play from Jay. He seems to have found a club and a manager to bring out the very best of his ability. League One: ANTHONY PILKINGTON (Huddersfield Town)
Noted for his tremendous work ethic and crossing ability, Anthony has now added goals to his game, making him one of the hottest properties in npower League 1. League Two: CRAIG DAVIES (Shrewsbury Town)
Craig has certainly had a blistering start to the season. He has the pace and athleticism to play at a higher level and a penchant for the spectacular as his several goals from distance have proven.

Peter's Picks of the Week

CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Frank Fielding (Derby County)
This was a week of quality goals, so trust me to choose a goalkeeper as my Player of the Week. I have gone for Derby County's Frank Fielding, on loan from Blackburn, who has contributed to five wins and three clean sheets in his six appearances. The 22-year-old kept out both Ipswich and Portsmouth this week and is promising to become a real top performer.
