Hull manager Mike Phelan believes their gameplan worked against West Brom

Hull boss Mike Phelan is hoping to build on the late point salvaged against West Brom that arrested a run of six defeats from seven Premier League games.

Tigers skipper Michael Dawson bagged a 72nd-minute equaliser after Gareth McAuley appeared to have the Baggies heading for a third straight win.

The draw did not lift Hull out of the Premier League's bottom three but they are level on points with West Ham and Crystal Palace above them.

"Overall we are pleased with the point, especially after a run of defeats. We can try and build on these things," Phelan told Sky Sports.

"I thought it was 45 minutes where we tried to be composed and not give anything away, and then came out of the traps better in second half. We upped the tempo, made a change and definitely was on the front foot.

That's the game. We can be cautious sometimes and it doesn't work, but sometimes it does.

"Credit to all the players. They definitely stuck at it and had a little bit of belief, coming from 1-0 behind. If we keep that belief maybe we can win football matches."
