Prospective Leeds United buyer Steve Parkin has been asked to pay a deposit that would grant him exclusivity to buy the club, Sky sources understand.

It is understood Parkin wishes to buy 50 per cent of the club, which would make him the majority stakeholder at Elland Road.

On Tuesday, Leeds owner Massimo Cellino confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ six potential buyers had been in touch with his lawyers.

The Italian, currently fighting a second Football League ban, withdrew from negotiations to sell the club to Leeds Fans United last week, but confirmed he is still open to offers.

Parkin, a former miner, is a millionaire businessman based in Leeds and a lifelong fan of the Championship side.

He unsuccessfully tried to buy Leeds back in 2013, just a year before Cellino acquired the club.

Cellino said his preference would be for the buyer to be Leeds-based, adding he believed the club were no in a 'financially okay situation'.
