Ezgjan Alioski has been ruled out for the rest of the Championship season through injury after tearing his meniscus in Leeds' 2-0 defeat to Brentford.
The 27-year-old, who operates at left-back and on the wing, will undergo surgery later on Tuesday and is predicted to be facing a six-week spell on the sidelines.
Alioski joined the Whites in 2017 from Swiss side Lugano, he has gone on to make 90 appearances for Leeds, scoring 14 times, creating 11 assists.
The Macedonian international has played a key role in Leeds' promotion push, and will miss out on crucial end-of-season games against Aston Villa and Ipswich Town.
Brentford dented Leeds' top-flight ambitions through goals from Neal Maupay and Sergi Canos in a 2-0 loss on Easter Monday; in a game where Patrick Bamford was controversially denied a penalty.
With a 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan on Good Friday, Marco Bielsa's team are three points behind fellow Yorkshire Championship rivals Sheffield United in third place with two matches remaining; and therefore may have to try and reach the Premier League via the play-offs.
Leeds' director of football Victor Orta said: "We are disappointed by the news that Ezgjan is unlikely to play again this season.
"He has shown his quality throughout the year playing in various positions, he is popular figure around the club who always puts his team-mates first and sets an example for the younger players."
