Leeds land Marques

Leeds United have completed the capture of defender Rui Marques.

Leeds United have completed the capture of Angola international defender Rui Marques.

After impressing on trial, Whites boss Kevin Blackwell offered the 27-year-old a two-year contract earlier this week.

Marques has become the club's seventh signing this summer, following the arrivals of Robbie Blake, Dan Harding, Eddie Lewis, Steve Stone, Ian Bennett and Rob Hulse.

The former Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart stopper is delighted to be joining a club of Leeds' stature and feels the West Yorkshire outfit will once again return to England's top-flight.

"Leeds is a big club, it's really a Premier League club and I believe that Leeds will be in the Premiership again," said Marques to the club's official website.

"I had some difficult times after Germany, but I think England will be a new start for me. I think it will be very interesting for me to play in England. I believe I have a lot to offer."
