Leeds have signed trialist Davide Somma and let Alan Sheehan join Oldham on loan.

One in, one out at Elland Road

Leeds United have boosted their strike-force with the signing of trialist Davide Somma. The South African-born striker, who has most recently been with the San Jose Earthquakes, has penned a one-year contract at Elland Road after impressing during a pre-season trial. The 24-year-old, who has Italian parents, moved to Florida at the age of 12 and had brief spells in Spain and Italy before returning to play in the USA. "He has done enough to earn himself a contract," Leeds boss Simon Grayson told the club's official website. "We have all been pleased with what we've seen, and we'll see how it goes from here.

Great opportunity

"It's an opportunity for us to have a closer look at the player and it's a great opportunity for him." Meanwhile, defender Alan Sheehan left Leeds on deadline day in an initial one-month loan move to Oldham. The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international joined Leeds from Leicester last summer and made 11 league appearances before finishing last term on loan at Crewe. The 23-year-old will be available for Oldham's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Accrington on Tuesday night.
