Grayson delighted to sign striker from Swindon

Leeds have bolstered their attacking options by recruiting Billy Paynter from Swindon. The 26-year-old striker, who scored 29 goals in League One last season, had refused to sign a new contract at Swindon, where his current deal expires next month. Leeds have moved quickly to snap him up, with the deal officially going through at the start of July. "He proved his worth last season, scoring four goals against us in two games," said Leeds manager Simon Grayson. "He has matured as a player over the last couple of years and had a fantastic season last season.

Delighted

"He works ever so hard, holds the ball up well and has proved he knows where the back of the net is. "When we knew he was available we were desperate to get him. We feel he will be a good acquisition for the club and I'm delighted to have got him." Leeds' leading goalscorer Jermaine Beckford left Elland Road last week and has since signed a four-year contract at Everton. Grayson added: "I've said before that whenever we sign a striker people will link him to Jermaine, but he is not a Jermaine Beckford, he is Billy Paynter. "He's got a different style about him and will do the things that brought him success last year."
