Whites' promising midfielder leaves on loan

Leeds United midfielder Adam Clayton has joined Peterborough United on a month's loan. The 21-year-old joined Leeds on loan from Manchester City at the start of the season before sealing a permanent move before the transfer window closed. However, he has made just two substitute appearances in the Championship since his permanent switch due to strong competition for places in the middle of the park. Manager Simon Grayson has now allowed Clayton to join League One outfit Peterborough in a bid to boost match fitness and bolster his experience.

High regard

Grayson holds the youngster, who is now in line to make his Peterborough debut against Southampton, in high regard and believes a loan will give him a boost. "Adam is a player we hold in high regard and have high hopes for," Grayson told the club's official website. "He hasn't had a lot of opportunities as yet, and a loan move will do him good and us good because he will be able to play regular football and continue his development." Clayton spent time on loan with Carlisle last term and becomes the second Leeds player to depart in two days following Aidan White's Oldham switch.
