German youngster opts for Elland Road after Premier League interest
Teenage defender Monty Gimpel is confident he has made the right decision in signing for Leeds United.
Gimpel will initially join the Championship club as a scholar, but the 17-year-old has also agreed a professional contract at Elland Road.
He links up with Simon Grayson's side from non-league Tooting and Mitcham, and had also been tracked by the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.
However, after spending time with Leeds' Under 18 squad, the German-born youngster had no qualms in signing for the Whites.
"I went to a few other clubs as well but I liked Leeds the most and I think this is a good decision," Gimpel told the club's
official website.
"I came here for the first time in December and to sign is a really good thing. Everyone welcomed me, it's like a family.
"I've always played a lot of football. I played for Hannover for 10 or 11 years, then I stopped when I first came to England.
"I wouldn't have expected this to come out of my two years in England. It's amazing."
