Exeter 1-0 Luton
Thursday 1 January 2026 17:45, UK
Pierce Sweeney's sublime strike earned Exeter a well-deserved 1-0 League One win against Luton at St James Park.
After a bright start from Luton, it was Exeter who had the first shot with Jayden Wareham firing tamely at Hatters goalkeeper James Shea after good work by Jack Aitchison.
Exeter went close again with Wareham this time firing against the inside of the post after being put through on goal while, at the other end, Jordan Clark fired over Joe Whitworth's crossbar from a tight angle.

Wareham saw a header cleared off the line and, as Luton struggled to clear their lines, Aitchison sent a dipping half-volley over the bar from 20 yards as Exeter continued to create the better chances.
Shayden Morris fired into the side netting for Luton, but Exeter went in front on 50 minutes when a blocked Wareham shot fell invitingly for Sweeney and he placed a delightful curled finish into the far corner from 15 yards for his first goal of the season.
Ethan Brierley saw a shot superbly saved by Shea before substitute Reece Cole twice went close to increasing Exeter's lead.
Luton rarely looked like scoring as the Grecians defended their goal superbly to make it back-to-back wins after Monday's victory at AFC Wimbledon.
