Vadaine Oliver returned from a three-match suspension to blast York into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy quarter-finals.

The target man's brace secured a 2-0 win over Sky Bet League One side Doncaster.

Home keeper Scott Flinders made two good early saves to deny Doncaster pair Dany N'Guessan and James Coppinger, paving way for Oliver to open the scoring on six minutes.

The former Crewe striker headed firmly into Thorsten Stuckmann's bottom-left corner from 10 yards following an excellent left-wing cross by Anthony Straker.

Oliver claimed his second of the match on 50 minutes when he seized on an error by Aaron Taylor-Sinclair.

Keeping his cool, the York forward then calmly lifted the ball over the on-rushing Stuckmann and fired into the empty goal.

At the other end, Flinders did well again to keep out a powerful long-range effort from sub Harry Forrester late on.
