Pompey hoping to bring in Reading keeper for 2012/13 season
Michael Appleton is confident that a deal can be struck to bring Reading goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen to Portsmouth on loan.
The Dane has been identified by the cash-strapped South Coast club in their hunt for a new No.1 after Jamie Ashdown was released at the end of last season.
The 23-year-old has yet to play for the Royals, but has clocked up over 60 appearances in loan spells with Brentford, Torquay United, Brighton and Bristol Rovers.
Pompey are waiting for permission to finalise the deal from the Football League, but Appleton says the player's enthusiasm gives him confidence he can be a success at Fratton Park.
Positive
"Mikkel is one we enquired about," Appleton said. "I was not sure what response we would get from Reading and his agent as to whether he would want to come to League One or go in to the Championship.
"But the response we got straight away from the boy himself and the agent was really positive.
"The boy from day one spoke really highly about the football club which was a breath of fresh air. Everybody else at the minute seems to stick the boot in.
"That helps me that here is a player desperate to come in to the football club."
Portsmouth, who will
start life in League One with a 10-point deduction, aim to secure Andersen's services for the whole of 2012/13.
"Everything has been agreed for a season-long loan," Appleton added.
