Sky Bet League One: Chesterfield's Eoin Doyle looking to build on award

Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle hopes the goals will continue to flow after scooping the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award.

The Irish frontman has seen his efforts in September recognised, with a productive run taking his tally for the season to 13 in all competitions.

Doyle is now the leading marksman in the country and has already matched his return for the whole of the 2013/14 campaign.

Back-to-back hat-tricks, against Scunthorpe United and Preston North End, have helped him along the way, with the 26-year-old now looking to build on a breathtaking start to the season.

“It’s gone very well,” Doyle told Sky Sports.

“But like all strikers, it’s not just down to myself. I’m only as good as the service I get. I’ve got plenty of that around me. Hopefully the goals will continue with the help of the lads that are putting me in the positions.

“There’s no pressure and I’m enjoying it. Scoring goals helps to bring confidence to the team so I have to keep going. Hopefully they’ll keep coming.

“There will be a few teams that will be looking out for me, but so I’m far enjoying it.”

Doyle’s efforts have carried last season’s Sky Bet League Two champions into the third tier play-off places, with manager Paul Cook having found a winning formula that has bridged the step up in class.

“I’ve always had confidence in myself and the team,” added Doyle.

“I don’t think many people would have expected us to be in this position early in the season, coming up from the league below, but we’re competing and feel that we have every right to compete. It’s been a great for us and for me personally as well.

“We work hard on every individual game during the week and so far the plan has been working.

“Momentum is huge as well. We obviously had that from last season. Even for myself, I had it and haven’t changed too much. We’re delighted with how it has gone and long may it continue.”

If Doyle can maintain his impressive strike rate, there is no reason why Chesterfield cannot be pushing for back-to-back promotions and he cannot celebrate many more individual accolades over the course of the campaign.

He said of his monthly gong: “It’s great. It’s always been one I would like to have and I’ve managed to achieve it so early in the season. It’s a great award and I’m very proud to have got it.”
