Keeper set to be re-united with old boss at Ashton Gate

Goalkeeper Steve Collis is set to sign for old boss Gary Johnson at Bristol City until the end of the season. The free agent has been training with the Championship outfit after having his contract at Crewe terminated by mutual consent on New Year's Day. He worked with Johnson at Yeovil between 2002 and 2006 and the Robins boss is delighted the 28-year-old is poised to join him again. The Robins are set to allow youngster Stephen Henderson to leave on loan to get regular playing experience so Collis will provide competition for Dean Gerken for the No.1 jersey until the end of the season. He could be on the bench for Tuesday's match against Cardiff City at Ashton Gate.

Capable keeper

Johnson told the club's official website: "Steve is a player I know very well from my time at Yeovil and he is a very capable keeper. "Steve contacted us after leaving Crewe and asked if he could come training and he's been with us for a few weeks now. "Not a lot of people are aware of his situation and he's sneaked under the radar to an extent. "We've got ourselves a very good keeper and he will provide strong competition for Dean Gerken." Johnson added: "At Yeovil it was always a choice between him and Chris Weale, who our supporters know is a good keeper. "There really was nothing to choose between them and selecting a keeper was one of my toughest jobs during my time at Yeovil."

Working hard

The City boss said the club are working hard to allow Henderson to go out on loan. He added: "Stephen is a young player who desperately wants to be playing. He needs games rather than just sitting on the bench. We've not had a reserve game for a long time and it's obviously frustrating for Stephen. "We are working very hard to find him a loan move to a league club. We rate him very highly and he has a big future ahead of him, but at this moment in time he needs to get some first-team football at a good level, gaining valuable experience at the same time."
